At Anjali by Syphon, our focus is on the wellbeing of those who visit us in Siem Reap, as well as the environment from which every one of us hails. This means making a conscious effort to lessen our impact and shrink our footprint. And while we may just be a piece of the environmental puzzle, we do what we can to spread the light of sustainability to all our international guests.
From solar technology to bamboo products, our efforts go beyond the status quo—a move we can only hope will transcend our hotel and find its way the world across. Our sustainability projects are always progressing, but we never fail to keep in mind that even the minutiae make a difference.
A Hotel Powered by the Sun
Anjali features solar panels that are installed on the rooftop. We use these tools to heat our supply of water, as well as give energy to a portion of the entire hotel. We chose to make this investment for the sake of shrinking our carbon footprint as much as possible, and it’s proven to be well worth the expenditure.
Solar panels do more than save you funds on your electricity bills. They reserve alternative resources like gas, oil, coal, biomass and biofuel, all of which are common throughout Cambodia. They’re a highly practical solution to a thoroughly impractical problem, ultimately sustaining our existence in every way. So when you heat up the water for your long-sought-after shower at Anjali, you can feel better about your impact.
Fun and Plastic Free
By now, you’re well aware that plastic is a no-go in the environmentalist’s world. That’s exactly why all of Anjali is free from plastic usage, all the way down to the details.
We avoid plastic straws and plastic water bottles. Moreover, we provide our suppliers with nonplastic bags and containers for them to use during product deliveries. Even the hotel room key cards are crafted from sustainably sourced bamboo, instead of the traditional hunk of plastic that’s considered the norm. As a guest seeking some hydration, you’re more than welcome to borrow one of our own aluminum water bottles as you head off on your tour through Siem Reap
and beyond.
A Staff in the Environmental Know
Being a vanguard for environmental change means more than just implementing sustainable measures and leaving it be. The process involves education from the ground up, so everyone can be an integral part of the initiative.
For this sake, we educate and train our entire staff on the concept of environmental consciousness. By sharing our sustainability vision, we’re able to ensure that every individual knows exactly why we do what we do, ultimately allowing them to share that sense of inspiration with anyone they may cross paths with. When our staff fully supports our initiative, we’re better and stronger for it.
Making a Difference in Siem Reap
Cambodian individuals from populated areas use in excess of 2,000 plastic bags per year. That’s a shocking metric, but we know that the truth can hurt more than just our pride. It has the capacity to harm our planet at every level. Anjali by Syphon Hotel craves a change, and we know that we have the potential to spark it. Through a variety of sustainability projects, we vie for a greater Siem Reap, a more prosperous Cambodia and—most importantly—a better, more sustainable world.
